After a year of silence, Gigi’s Hoxton is unrolling a major line-up of comeback events, menus, and offers throughout 2021 to reclaim its title as the bedrock of East London’s food and music scene.
The Venue
Minutes away from the 5-star rated Grapevine Restaurant and Library and the legendary The Cornershop Bar, East London locals will easily recognise the cosy location nestled at the top of Hoxton Square itself; both geographically and culturally, Gigi’s Hoxton is a mainstay in the East London food and music scene. With its terrace overlooking the excitement of avant-garde Shoreditch, it’s the interior that needs to be experienced. Truly something out of this world, think of a backdrop from a J.R. Tolkien tale mixed with the neon lightworks of Tron and you get the idea.
Music and Events
Hidden beneath Gigi’s is Hoxton Underbelly, the dark alter ego of the colourful scene above ground. As a quintessential London dive-in, this dark and imaginative hollow captures the soul of a 90’s era electronica nightclub with the classic touch of a vintage burlesque bar. Formerly Zigfried von Underbelly, some famous performances seen at this fabled venue include Wolfgang Flur, Little Mix, Wolf Alice, Bastille, The Horrors, Kraftwerk, Frank Turner….and the list goes on. Expect to see another mind-blowing line-up scheduled for spring and summer 2021.
The Food and Drinks
If you’ve enjoyed an evening of party and drink in East London, you’ll certainly have come across one of the top-line establishments run by the reknown Gigi’s Hospitality Group. The menu at Gigi’s Hoxton includes the best artisan food in the area, with experienced restauranteur Giovanna devising a classic menu delicious enough to merit a trip to Hoxton square alone.
Restaurant Menu
The vast Seafood menu is sourced fresh from local markets daily. The Lobster Spaghetti is cooked to perfection while the Seafood Risotto is an all-in-one partygoer favourite. Grilled dishes include a Wild Seabass, Tuna Steak, or a sprawling Mixed Grilled Seafood Platter you’d more rather expect to find along the Mediterranean coastline. For the inland palette, the Ribeye Steak is a guaranteed go-to option. A further selection of Gourmet Burgers, Lobster, and a huge assortment of sides completes a menu one needs to taste in person to see the sheer amount of planning and creativity that takes place at Gigi’s Hoxton.
Bar Menu
While there is no shortage of attention to detail to the food and ambiance at Gigi’s Hoxton, it’s the warmth of Giovanna’s staff that makes the night work. The Bar Menu here is immense, with every variety of wine or spirit on the market. The cocktails are also ecclectic, where we recommend trying a Feeling Green – a vodka and and fresh lime concoction topped with cucumber, coriander, apple and soda, or the Frida – an homage to the legendary artist with a Patron silver tequila, Tia Maria berry mix with lemon.
During live music events, Underbelly offers an incredible deal of two pints plus a choice of Wings, Calamari, Bruschetta, or the Lobster Croquettes for just £10. You’ll need fuel to keep up with the deep vibrations emanating from the state-of-the-art sound systems on both floors.
